When grandma died and I inherited her house, I didn’t think I’d be inheriting a headache as well. I thought I’d be able to just walk in here, clean the place out and put it on the market to be sold without a problem but it wasn’t going to be that simple. Not only was the property itself in terrible shape but grandma was apparently a hoarder as well and had junk stacked from the floor to the ceiling. It was obvious that I was going to need to rent a dumpster to haul all of this stuff away, I’d also need to recruit some help because it’d take me months to do this all by myself. I was grateful that I’d be able to get a dumpster rental, driving all this junk to the dump in my truck wouldn’t be very efficient and I’d go broke filling the truck back up with gas in the process. No one had talked much with grandma for the last few years and every time I saw her it was at a neutral location, I had no idea she had all this stuff. A lot of things were beginning to make sense to me now, the problems grandma had and the arguments my mom and her siblings used to have with her. Eventually everyone kind of gave up and grandma told everyone to leave her alone so they did and the junk continued to pile up from then on out without anyone keeping an eye on her.
Now that our kids are all moved away with families of their own, my husband and I have considered downsizing. After all, it is a little ridiculous to have such an over the top large house if it is only going to be the two of us around. Plus, we don’t really entertain anymore or have friends come and visit so we can’t even lie to ourselves and justify that maybe one day we will need the rooms. Plus, we have done some math and figured out that if we were to sell our house and move into a smaller apartment outside of the city a bit we could both retire four or five years earlier than we had originally planned. Actually, given how hard it has been for either of us to find work the past few years, this is more forced retirement than anything else. To prepare for the move we have started getting rid of things in mass. Some of the most sentimental things we are either going to hold on to or give to our kids. A lot of the things we had piling up in boxes though are things that we just don’t need. Things I am not really sure why were had decided to keep in the first place. To make the whole emptying our house process easy I called a dumpster rental service. Of course we donated everything that was still functional but a lot of the things we were keeping no person in their right mind would ever want. By calling the dumpster rental service we were able to get rid of a lot of the piling up junk that we don’t want to bring with us and can now move on to the next task in our moving process.
One of the keys to being successful in your business is to make sure that you are getting all the business in the door that you can. If you are able to process business fast, that means that you can get more business in the door. There may also be instances in which you are competing with another company, and the faster and more responsive of the two businesses will be the one to get the contract. This is especially the case with the construction industry. So you will want to have an infrastructure in place so that you are able to respond quickly to a request. One of the biggest things that you can do to lay out an infrastructure is to have a roll off dumpster company on your speed dial. If you are running a construction management company, you have to have a way of getting the rubbish out of the worksite. So you need to rent a dumpster. If you have a relationship already established with a particular company, you will be able to move quickly when the time comes to act. This is another reason to establish a relationship with the local business. If they are local, that is all the faster that they can respond. You will be the first one that can say that you are ready to move. It is particularly challenging when there is someone or a firm outside of your own business that you are dependent upon. You and your people may be ready to move, but the dumpster company has to be ready too.
There wasn’t much time left, our landlord was re-doing the roof for the past 3 days and had rented a roll off dumpster to dispose of all the waste. He said the roofers were through with their work on the roof and there was still room left in the dumpster if anyone had any large items they were trying to discard. This was great news because over the course of the last several months my roommates and I had acquired a large amount of useless junk by becoming mutually addicted to the “free” section of craigslist.
There were so many things we needed to get rid of, so many things that we spent so much time, gas and energy acquiring for “free” that it hardly seems like any of it was actually ”free” now. A leather sofa with only “slight” damage on the armrest and a hide-a-bed, a shoe rack that is actually just a sawed-off metal shelving unit, a 90 pound solid wood core door, a big box of Christmas decorations, a forty-year collection of National Geographic Magazine and a non-working, 20th century organ that no one would know how to play even if it did work. Yeah, we were going to take full and complete advantage of this opportunity to rid ourselves of all these things we thought were so cool at some point in time but we only had a half hour before the dumpster service was going to come pick it up. I feared that if I wasn’t able to unload all this junk now that I might never rid myself of it so I resolved to get the job done, no matter what it took.
Recycling is the best easy thing that you can do. Now that sentence may sound a little cryptic and confusing. But break it down a bit. Of all of the easy things that you can do to help the environment, recycling is by far the easiest of those things. It is pretty simple, and everyone can do it. A dumpster rental makes it particularly easy. Things that are thrown into a dumpster can be sorted and reused in various ways to cut down on the mass in a landfill. There are some things, of course, that cannot be thrown into a roll off dumpster. You cannot throw paint into a dumpster. But beyond this short list of things that you cannot throw into a dumpster, it is fair game. Are you running a landscaping company? You can throw your grass waste which will not fit in the compost into the dumpster. It is so simple and easy, and that means that there is not real reason not to use a roll off dumpster. But you need to make sure that you are hiring a company that is committed to responsible waste management. Waste management is usually at odds with different organizations and efforts that are trying to help the environment. The reason is that there are not a lot of perfect practices. In the olden days, the answer was that the solution to pollution is dilution. But now, there is so much pollution that it does not work anymore. But recycling is better than others.
It was really interesting to read in the Economist some years ago about all of the problems that Italy is having with its trash hauling services. I would have never guessed that there is a fully developed country that is having issues picking up its trash. The country is one of beautiful postcards and beautiful women. Their soccer team has won the World Cup five times and yet the country as a whole is suffering from a mismanagement of its trash hauling services. I am thrilled to know that that is probably not something that is going to happen here in Denver. Denver has great infrastructure and it really helps the city operate in a cohesive manner. Could you imagine trying to haul large amount of trash in a city like Venice? I am actually really interested to know how a city like Venice does it. I wonder if they take all of the trash on their waterways or if there are roads behind many of the buildings that allow for the trash collecting services to work. Nonetheless, it would not surprise to find out that a country like Italy does not have many options for dumpster rentals considering all of the problems that have with regular trash collection. I guess the biggest problem is with the mafia and their control over picking up of the trash. Again, I am thrilled to know that that is not a problem here and that I will never have to worry about a roll off dumpster chilling in the sun for a long period of time.
Waste management is a tough issue facing this generation and future ones. As a global community, we are a little baffled as to what to do about the climate crisis. We have developed some excellent remedied, but waste management continues to present new and challenging conundrums. When I was in India and Mali, burning trash was a very common practice. People burned all of their trash. This assumes that they even collected the trash, as opposed to just leaving it scattered all about. And my fellow travelers were a little shocked to see such practices. I remember some people saying that they felt heartbroken by the litter. But we thought about it a little longer, and we realized that there is just as much trash (if not more!) in the US, but we do not see it. It is all still there. In the US, it is all under the surface, metaphorically and literally. So the point of all of this is that we still do not have a perfect response to waste management. So what is the proper response? Despair? Well, just because we do not have a perfect solution, it does not mean that we do not have some less than ideal solutions. A dumpster service is a good example of a good practice that at least helps the solution. Solar panels are excellent ways of weaning ourselves off of non-renewable energy. We can carpool. We can compost. There are tons of things that we can do. So for your next construction job, consider renting a roll off dumpster.
Everything in my house hold has a place, and everything is really almost always in its place. I don’t understand how people can live any other way, I simply could not function if it were not that way in my house. When ever something new comes in, if there is no place for it, then something else just has to go out to create space. And things can’t be too cluttered either, so there is a big roll off dumpster that we keep outside, just in case we need to throw away something big and massive, or just lots of little things. I know that I do buy things a lot, probably a lot more than I am supposed to buy things. But at least I’m not having problems with hoarding, because I like to get rid of things just as much as I like to buy things. I think that new is always better, and so the old just usually has to go out with the trash. If possible, we try to send things to the reusing center, or the vintage place, or whatever it is, but usually I don’t have the time to take it there. So I just throw it out. It really makes it so much more convenient when we have the place outside in the driveway to put everything into, and then someone comes and picks it up and its all gone. I love it. The roll off dumpster really is the best, because it means I can keep buying things and throwing old stuff away, which I love.
